Is AI face swap safe? What happens to your photo

Updated · Remake the Trend

It depends on the site, so check three things before uploading: who can see the photo, how long it's kept, and whether it trains AI. Here only you can see it, it's deleted after 30 days (2 days if you never make a video) and it's never used for training. Only use photos of yourself or of adults who agreed.

Questions to ask any face swap site

  1. Who can see my photo? (Only you, or is it public by default?)
  2. How long is it kept, and can I delete it myself?
  3. Is it used to train AI models?
  4. Which companies process it? (A privacy policy should name them.)
  5. Does it make videos of other people's faces without asking?

What does the law say about deepfakes?

In the United States, the TAKE IT DOWN Act (signed 19 May 2025) makes it a crime to publish intimate images of a person without consent, AI-made ones included, and gives platforms 48 hours to remove them after a valid request. Many US states and other countries have their own rules on using someone's likeness. None of this is about a funny trend video of yourself, but it is why we refuse photos of other people who didn't agree, and anything intimate.

Do you have to say it's AI?

On the big platforms, yes, for anything that looks real. TikTok asks creators to label realistic AI-generated content and adds labels itself when it detects AI metadata. YouTube asks creators to disclose realistic altered or synthetic content, including swapping one person's face for another. Instagram and Facebook show an "AI info" label when AI is detected or disclosed. Labelling costs nothing and keeps the post up.

If someone used your face

Report the post on the platform where it appeared. If it was made here, write to us from the takedown page: we delete the photo and videos, close the account and help with the report.
